The annual Parish Assembly for 2011 was held on
Friday 15th April.
The evening began with an illustrated talk by Mr Tim Coleshaw of Natural England on the subject of Aqualate Mere. Tim shared with his audience the history of both the Mere and the Aqualate estate, including the succession of three large residences and the variety of animals, birds, insects and plants that can be observed. He spoke about parking and access and answered questions about funding and management. Aqualate has long supported a deer herd, but the nature reserve is now grazed by Dartmoor ponies and Galloway cattle.
This interesting and informative presentation was followed by reports from Mike Allen, Chairman of the Parish Council, Mark Winnington, County Councillor, and Barry Stamp, Borough Councillor. Questions were raised about the volume and speed of traffic through the village, the cost of the Staffordshire County Council information booklet sent to all households and the effects of cuts on services such as buses. Councillor Derek Warbrick gave a report on the progress of the provision of new playground equipment and Councillor Peter Lawrence gave an update on the activities connected with the Best Kept Village. The assembly concluded with the taking of tea or coffee and cake.
